Brad Horn - By design and desire, a professional adventurer, Brad’s passion is wild and natural places.  This passion was nurtured growing up on a cattle station in Western Queensland and as an Australian Army Officer.  Brad then spent six wonderful years living in the African bush operating safaris.  Brad has developed enduring relationships with the best tour and resort operators around the world.  This network of contacts, combined with his extensive hands-on experience, ensures Epic Private Journeys delivers on an unrivalled experience.

Brad continues to guide select private groups to Africa throughout the year.


 

AFRICA & INDIA
Ian Johnson
Ian Johnson

Ian Johnson - In addition to his managerial responsibilities with Epic Private Journeys, Ian is one of Africa's leading professional guides and photographers.  He has lived and worked throughout Africa's Great Rift Valley in some of Africa's greatest wildlife destinations from South Africa to Northern Kenya.  Ian has received several International and Southern African Awards for his wildlife and natural history photography.  He has undertaken photo journalism commissions for numerous publications namely Africa Geographic, Condé Nast and House & Garden.  He is also a freelance cameraman for the BBC Natural History Unit, for whom he is a specialist consultant on leopards.


 

AFRICA
Rob Barbour
Rob Barbour

Rob Barbour was born in Kenya although spend his formative years in Australia.  A doctor by trade, Rob served in the Australian Army, most notably as the regimental medical officer to the elite Special Air Service Regiment (SAS).  He also spent time on active service with the UN in Western Sahara and the Middle East.  Upon leaving the Army in the late 90's, Rob migrated back to Africa.  He now resides with his family in Tanzania.  Rob's passion for both adventure and the natural world, along with his vast experience, ideally place him to lead expeditions into far flung places in the region.  In addition to his role with Epic, Rob also directs a community based safari operation in Eastern Tanzania.

Jonathan Scott
Angie Scott
Jonathan & Angie Scott

Jonathan and Angie Scott - The Scott name is synonymous in the safari industry with photography and documentary making.  Their list of credits in this regard is very impressive and include numerous productions with the BBC; Big Cat Diary and Elephant Diaries to name but two.  They also boast a number of published pictorial works.  Their most recent work is entitled Antarctica: Journeys to a Fragile Eden.  Jonathan and Angie have travelled extensively and guide safaris as far afield as India.

Greg du Toit
Greg du Toit

Greg du Toit is a professional wildlife photographer and was born in South Africa.  He has lived and worked across the continent, documenting remote and seldom visited wildernesses. Avoiding the use of super telephoto lenses, he prefers intimate interactions with his subjects. Most noticeably was the time when, for a period of three months, he sat in a waterhole on the floor of the Great Rift Valley to obtain images of a lioness and seven cubs drinking.  His dedication has most certainly paid off, earning him three portfolios in Africa Geographic.  In an exciting new partnership, Greg is available to host photographic safaris for Epic Private Journeys, whereby he hopes to share his signature photographic skills and bush experiences with international photographers of all levels.

Ian Batchelor
Ian Batchelor

Ian Batchelor grew up in Zimbabwe although now calls Tanzania home.  He is based out of Arusha.  Ian is a licensed guide from the old Zimbabwean guiding system.  Needless to say his knowledge and competency is top notch.  Ian's guiding background is diverse, having guided safaris throughout much of sub-Saharan Africa.  His professional but easy going manner makes him an ideal travelling companion.

Lee Whittam
Lee Whittam

Lee Whittam was born in Zimbabwe, growing up in the remote bush that borders Gonarezhou National Park.  In such a pristine bush setting he quickly garnered a keen interest in the natural world. Family holidays in the wilds of Lake Kariba and the lower Zambezi Valley as well as South Africa and Mozambique fortified this interest.  It came as no surprise that Lee embarked up on a professional career in guiding, having worked in the top lodges of the greater Kruger National Park in South Africa and subsequently the Moremi Game Reserve and the Linyanti in Botswana.

Andy Payne
Andy Payne

Andy Payne was born and raised in Zimbabwe.  He was introduced to the bush at an early age and soon began his career in the safari industry as a learner guide out of Lake Kariba.  Andy spent several years guiding canoeing, walking and fishing trips in the Zambezi Valley.  He helped coordinate anti-poaching efforts and was made an honorary ranger with the Zambian Wildlife Department.  Andy also worked as Operations Manager for an adventure safari company in East Africa, affording him travel to Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.  Based in Arusha, Andy privately guides safaris and flies micro-lights in his free time.


Richard Field

Richard Field is a passionate naturalist and photographer, and has worked as a safari guide in Africa for the last 14 years. He loves everything about Africa’s wilderness areas, but for him these experiences are only complete when he gets to share them with other people. His aim is for people to walk away from a safari experience feeling the same way that he does about the African bush. A true trans-Africa guide, Richard is available as a private guide throughout sub-Saharan Africa.  Northern Botswana, a place he called home for 8 years, is still his ultimate safari destination.


 

AUSTRALIA & PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Pedro O'Connor
Pedro O'Connor

Pedro O’Connor spent his formative years growing up on Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef.  He moved to South Africa for the latter years of his secondary school education and spent time on safaris to Rhodesia, Swaziland and Mozambique.  He later experienced the cultures of Mauritius, the Middle East and Europe.  A passionate traveller, Pedro has trekked the Himalayas, ridden camels in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, been chased by elephants in Zambia, climbed active volcanoes in Java and surfed the best waves of Indonesia.  Pedro operates out of Cairns, the gateway to the Barrier Reef, where his focus is to tailor private tour adventures for Epic’s discerning clientele.

Angus Baker
Angus Baker

Angus Baker is a born adventurer sporting a fine pedigree of experience. He has led many trips both within Australia and abroad.  A former infantry officer in the Australian Army, Angus brings a high degree of leadership and logistical mastery to his endeavours.  He is a passionate sportsman and has captained countless teams in the sports of rowing and rugby.  He is presently the coach of both the Australian Services and Army Rugby teams.  Angus also has a background in film production. He will no doubt challenge, entertain and inspire.


 

AMERICAS
Kevin Jackson
Kevin Jackson

Kevin Jackson has led many worldwide expeditions, including multiple ascents of Aconcagua in Argentina (the highest peak in the Americas), and Mt Whitney (the highest mountain in the continental United States).  Kevin is an expert on Patagonia, Chile; Aspen, Colorado; Anchorage, Alaska; the canyons of Arizona, and Vancouver Island, British Colombia.  Kevin is a NOLS certified Wilderness First Responder and is ACE Certified in First Aid and CPR. He also holds a Wilderness Health and First Aid Certification from the Red Cross.  Kevin holds an MBA in Operations Management and is responsible for the logistics and operations of all North and South American programmes.

Glenn Slattery
Glenn Slattery

Glenn Slattery is one of the foremost authorities on canyoneering in the United States.  Setting up several routes throughout the Colorado Plateau Region, his skills and experience are unmatched.  Residing in Sedona, Arizona, with his wife and son, he has detailed knowledge of the areas we will be exploring.  Glenn is a NOLS certified Wilderness First Responder and has spent the last 12 years as an Emergency Medical Technician and Instructor for Sedona Fire Department High Angle Rescue Team, where he is also a member of the Rescue Rigging and DPS Helicopter Rescue Teams.  Glenn is a Rope Access Technician and State Fire Marshal (Rope I, II, III).  To top that off, he holds the Intermediate qualification for ‘Ropes that Rescue’, a vertical access training organisation.


 

BHUTAN
Carolyn Hamer-Smith

Carolyn Hamer-Smith has a great respect for Asia and has travelled extensiely throughout the Himalayan region of Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet.  She had the rare privilege of living and working in Bhutan for two years as a consultant for the United Nations, during which time she fell in love, married a Bhutanese and made this mountain kingdom her second home.

Carolyn and Michelle guide Epic's small group departures to Bhutan, as well as private travellers, upon request.

Michelle Hogan

Michelle Hogan lived and worked in Bhutan as a consultant to the Royal Government of Bhutan's Ministry of Health working on public health campaigns.  She has trekked the stunning high mountain passes, travelled the country extensively (north, south, east and west) and has a deep respect for the culture, religion and approach to tourism.  Michelle's 'adopted family' live in Bhutan and she visits them as regularly as possible.
